The Pattern

Main Body

Using your I hook and the sonoma print color yarn, start with a magic circle (or your preferred method to begin working in the round).

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 10dc in magic circle, sl st into the top of the ch 3 (11)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in the same st, (dc inc)* to last st. DO NOT CONNECT, turn (22)

Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2dc in the next st, (dc, dc inc)* to last st. DO NOT CONNECT, turn (33)

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in the next st, dc inc, (2dc, dc inc)* to last st. DO NOT CONNECT, turn (44) Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in the next 2st, dc inc, (3dc, dc inc)* to last st. DO NOT CONNECT, turn (55)

Switch to your H hook. Sc down toward the center circle along the edge. Ch 10 and sl st into the circle to create a loop (skip this step in the second main body). Sc back up the other edge.

Do not FO, continue on to head.

Head

Using your I hook, (sc, hdc, dc) in the same st, dc in the next, 6tr into the next st, (dc, hdc, sc) in the next st. Sc in the next 7 sts, sl st in the next and FO.

Top of Head

Switch to the tangerine yarn. Using your I hook, Sl st in the 4th st of the head (dc from previous row), (hdc, dc, hdc) into same st, skip next st, (hdc, dc, hdc) into next st, skip next

st, (hdc, dc, hdc) into next st, ch 1, FO.

Beak

Switch to the yellow yarn and begin using your H hook. After the top of the head, skip a st, sl st, ch 3, sc in the 2nd ch from hook, sl st in the next ch, sl st in the next st, ch 1, FO.

Waddle

Switch to the tangerine yarn and continue using your H hook. After the beak, skip a st, sl st, sc in the next st, (hdc, dc, sc) in the next st, sl st in the next st, ch 1, FO.

Shells

Switch to the sonoma print yarn and continue using your H hook. Sl st into the sl st from the 7sc after the head. (Skip next 2 sts, work 7dc in same st, skip next 2 sts, sc)* Repeat to end, FO.

Second Chicken

Repeat the pattern for the second chicken but do not FO. Pull the ends to the opposite side so that the second chicken is a mirror of the first.

Place the wrong sides together and sc around the edges to connect.

Change color to match when sc around top of head, beak, and waddle.

On top of head, sl st instead of sc between clusters. This will help keep the shape of the top of the head.

Sc 10 sts into the ch 10 loop in the center of the circle.

And you're finished!
